Agriturismo Le Fornaci
Agriturismo Le Fornaci is located in a small village in the valley of Niccone between Lake Trasimeno and Umbertide. This family business started as a farm which today it still is. The farm does not have livestock, but land that is cultivated. Stables were converted into apartments, followed by a swimming pool and a small spa. Since this year the son of the owners has started a new adventure: a restaurant.
Last week, we went to explore and taste, and were definitely not disappointed. We were welcomed with a glass of white wine and a small appetiser. They have opted for a somewhat finer cuisine with a small menu. You can eat local dishes, but prepared slightly differently. For example, pigeon was on the menu. You rarely see this in a restaurant, while it is seen as a delicacy by many people in this area. Certainly ladies from a certain age can prepare it and will have learned it from their (grand)mothers.
We chose a cheese platter and a pumpkin flan as a starter, then homemade gnocchi in a spicy Parmesan sauce with very thin pieces of beef, and “trippa” (tripe!). The latter is regional and popular among the local population. I wonder whether you can still find this on a restaurant menu in more Nordic countries?
The restaurant itself is divided into smaller interconnected rooms, creating a very cozy atmosphere, a kind of living room idea. It can sit up to about 30 people. In the summer you sit outside overlooking the pool.

If you choose to stay in this agriturismo, you don’t have to drive to enjoy excellent food. The restaurant is also open to guests who are not staying at the agriturismo.
