Mud slides Umbria

Yesterday I wrote about floods hitting our area. Today we could asses the damage. This morning a digger made a new road on the back of what we call now ‘the dangerous house. It is impossible to remove the mud and trees from the roads as it might cause the collapse of the building and all the cables and pipes running on top of the […]

Floods.

We have had massive rainfalls in Umbria. The results you can see in the pictures below. We live on a hill and have a good roof. Only problem was we couldn’t go anywhere because a mudslide blocked the road.

Trendy Trevi

Yesterday evening we were to meet some friends in Trevi. Important question: dove andiamo a mangiare?A very friendly and good natural winemaker near us had mentioned Gustavo a while ago because of the winelist and good food. Gustavo’s owner is his friend. So Gustavo it was. The restaurant is housed in an old mill with a nice rustic yet funky atmosphere. Great attentive service, special […]

The Prize of Olive Oil.

Entering the supermarket on one of my rare visits I encountered this: Not sure if you can make it out on the picture but oh dear, five litres of olive oil for €12.50. That is only €2.50 a litre! As you might remember some days ago we proudly announced the birth of our own olive oil. We picked the olives on ‘our’ hill in two […]

Mi chiamo..

While reading a magazine in the waiting room of my dentist last week I overheard a funny conversation. An elderly man had just had something done to his teeth an wanted to pay. The wife of the dentist asked the man his exact name so she could make up the bill. The fellow, a typical Umbro, large hands, somewhat bended by all the hard physical […]

Cheap

An article about prices in Italian supermarkets drew my attention. Seems that Perugia is the cheapest place (or should I say: the least expensive?) to do your groceries in Italy! Upon closer studying of the article it turned out no huge sums were involved. The most expensive place to buy 2300 calories a day for a week is Aosta, 52 euro. In Perugia you can […]

Dining in Anghiari

If you cross the border between Tuscany and Umbria near Citta di Castello you’ll find yourself in a small Tuscan town called Anghiari. For months we had been planning to pay it a visit. Last week we were in the area anyway so it didn’t take long to decide that supper would be enjoyed in Anghiari. The restaurant we had chosen is called Da Alghiero. […]
